The Red Fort will now stay open on Mondays following a new directive from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The decision ends the monument’s long-standing weekly closure at the start of the week.

The revised schedule aims to improve access for domestic and international tourists. Many visitors earlier faced itinerary disruptions due to the Monday shutdown. Tour operators and travel planners have welcomed the move. They say a seven-day opening will make sightseeing easier, especially for short-stay visitors to Delhi.

The change has also raised concerns among heritage experts and conservationists. Earlier, the weekly closure allowed time for maintenance, cleaning and restoration. With daily access now in place, ASI must adopt staggered maintenance schedules and rotational staffing.

Officials have confirmed that preservation work will continue through alternative arrangements. Experts, however, stress the need to balance tourism growth with long-term conservation.

The Red Fort remains one of Delhi’s most visited landmarks. It attracts large crowds throughout the year and holds strong cultural significance. The new policy marks a shift in monument management. It reflects a growing focus on visitor convenience while underlining the ongoing challenge of heritage conservation.
