The German National Tourist Office (GNTO) unveiled its 2026 tourism strategy for India at a media event held at The Imperial, New Delhi, highlighting culinary tourism and city experiences as key pillars of its outreach efforts. In association with visitBerlin, the destination showcased experiences ranging from regional gastronomy and wine tourism to cultural attractions and urban exploration, reflecting the growing demand among Indian travellers for immersive and experience-led holidays.

India remains one of Germany’s fastest-growing source markets, with Berlin recording 37,160 arrivals and 122,728 overnight stays from Indian visitors in 2025, a 10 per cent increase over the previous year. Speaking at the event, Romit Theophilus, Director – Marketing & Sales Office, India, GNTO, said, “Indian travellers are spending more time, exploring beyond traditional landmarks and seeking experiences that create a deeper connection with a destination. Germany’s culinary heritage, wine regions and regional diversity offer exceptional opportunities for discovery.”

Burkhard Kieker, CEO of visitBerlin, added, “Indian travellers are increasingly choosing Berlin not only for its iconic attractions and creative spirit, but also for its innovation, business connections and cultural openness. This growing relationship continues to strengthen Berlin’s position as a leading global city.”

GNTO’s 2026 campaigns will focus on culinary discovery, city travel and regional experiences as Germany seeks to further expand its appeal among Indian travellers.
