Tourism Malaysia has intensified its engagement with the Indian travel market through its Sales Mission Series 2, held across Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi from August 12 to 20, 2026. The initiative supports the extended Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign through 2027 and aims to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a preferred destination for Indian travellers.

Led by Tourism Malaysia Director General Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim and organised in collaboration with Batik Air, the mission brought together 47 Malaysian tourism stakeholders, including tour operators, hoteliers and airline partners. The programme focused on B2B meetings, networking and developing new commercial opportunities between Malaysian and Indian travel businesses.

Tourism Malaysia highlighted India’s growing importance as a source market, supported by more than 190 direct flights weekly and over 37,000 seats. Following the introduction of visa-free travel for Indian nationals in December 2023, Malaysia recorded more than 1.5 million Indian visitor arrivals in 2025, placing India among its top five international markets.

The tourism board is also encouraging Indian travellers to explore destinations beyond Kuala Lumpur and Genting Highlands. Sarawak, Langkawi, Penang, Johor and Sabah offer opportunities across nature, adventure, culture, gastronomy, MICE and destination weddings. Tourism Malaysia plans to sustain promotional efforts through 2027 to drive longer stays, higher spending and repeat visits.
